What we collect

When you send a card, we collect your email address (for verification), your recipient's email or phone number (for delivery), the card content you create, and any photos you upload.

How we use it

• Verify your identity before sending a card
• Deliver your card to the recipient
• Notify you when your card is opened
• Process payments if you choose the Express option
• Improve the product and fix bugs

What we don't do

• Sell your data to third parties
• Send marketing emails unless you opt in
• Store payment card details (Stripe handles that)
• Read your card messages for advertising purposes

Third-party services

We use the following services to operate Away Notes:

• Supabase for database and file storage
• Resend for sending emails
• Stripe for payment processing
• Vercel for hosting
• Google AdSense for display advertising on content pages
• Google Analytics for understanding how readers use the site
• Amazon Associates for gift links shown alongside cards

Each service has its own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data needed for each service to function.

Advertising and cookies

We use essential cookies for site functionality. On our content pages (the blog, occasion guides, and other editorial), we also use Google AdSense to serve display ads. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to:

• Serve ads relevant to your interests based on your visits to this and other sites
• Measure ad performance and detect fraudulent activity

Data retention

Card data is stored indefinitely so recipients can revisit their cards. Verification codes expire after 10 minutes. You can request deletion of your data by contacting us.
